Course Overview

Advancing into complex maternity care, this semester strengthens obstetric and neonatal competencies by focusing on critical anatomy, emergency equipment, step-wise emergency responses, and visual decision points.
Learners gain clarity and confidence in managing high-risk and emergency situations within maternity and neonatal units.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course completion, learners will be able to:

  1. Analyze obstetric and neonatal conditions requiring emergency care.

  2. Assist in managing high-risk maternal and newborn cases.

  3. Perform neonatal resuscitation under supervision.

  4. Educate families on family planning and maternal health services.

Obstetrics and Gynecological Nursing

Antenatal assessment and identification of complications

Post abortion care & counseling

Counseling antenatal women for complication readiness

Mechanism of labour – abnormal (Shoulder dystocia)

Assisting in the conduction of abnormal vaginal deliveries and caesarean section

Management of complications during pregnancy/labour/postpartum

Administration of Inj. Magnesium sulphate

Starting and maintaining an oxytocin drip for PPH

Management of PPH – Bimanual compression of uterus

Management of PPH – Balloon tamponade

Instruments used in obstetrics and gynecology

Breast examination- Breast self-examination chart

Counseling of infertile couples
