Course Overview

Providing care in an inpatient setting demands vigilance, structured clinical thinking, and meticulous execution of procedures. This module offers a scaffolded pathway through essential inpatient competencies, combining protocol-driven clarity with practical relevance. Each component is designed to strengthen your confidence, enhance clinical judgement, and support safe, consistent, and patient-centred care across diverse inpatient scenarios.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this module, learners will be able to:

  1. Apply principles of precise, therapeutic communication to obtain relevant clinical information and produce complete, accurate, and context-appropriate inpatient documentation.

  2. Implement infection control standards and hospital safety protocols to maintain a safe, contamination-free environment and prevent hospital-acquired complications.

  3. Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and interpret vital parameters to identify deviations, prioritise care needs, and initiate timely responses.

  4. Perform routine bedside care and core nursing procedures using evidence-based techniques, ensuring patient comfort, safety, and procedural correctness.

  5. Administer medications safely by verifying, calculating, monitoring, and evaluating patient responses to reduce medication-related errors.

  6. Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain bedside devices with competence to ensure proper functioning, patient safety, and early detection of equipment-related risks.

  7. Handle essential clinical equipment appropriately by selecting, preparing, and utilising devices according to procedural needs and institutional protocols.

  8. Demonstrate immediate response readiness by performing Basic Life Support (BLS) steps accurately and initiating stabilising measures during clinical emergencies.
